PREPARATION & FAQ’s

how to prepare for your session

You’re going to want to wear, or be able to change into, items that primarily provide access to upper back, knees, neck, and feet. Think: accessibility and comfort.

For guys: a standard pair of shorts and tee works. For ladies: shorts, a covering like a training top or open back item. If we need to use cups in an area of the back, it will be beneficial to be able to address it easily and directly.

You will have to: remove jewelry like watches and rings, and leave out anything that could be in your pockets when you’re ready to get on the table. You can wear them in — just not during the session is all.

Breathing and relaxation is key. We build trust and work within your pain and comfort levels. I’ll know from your breathing where to address and where not to address. You may have to use calm, strong breaths at times, but I promise you’re built for it and will be rewarded by the end.

the flow of your session from pre-convo to post-convo

We start with a conversation as we prepare, to understand what you’ve done and been doing. If there’s an injury, what caused it? And, what is your level of pain.

Then, we get you relaxed and comfortable and start working. I use trustworthy digits and interrogating elbows to ask your body a few questions. After some discovery, if the issue can use additional power, we bring in a brigade of cups.

With 20+ years of experience, I seek and apply the appropriate set of modalities to combat the issue at hand to provide relief and healing into the future.

The initial recovery process takes about 48 hours, as your body disperses the old and refreshes with the new. Cupping marks dissolve as quickly as your body can heal them, usually in a 7-10 day period. The quicker they dissolve the clearer your body is functioning.

Post-session I provide suggestions of how to care for your body in order to maximize recovery — hydration, diet, stretches, and uncommon exercises.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ∞

Q: TELL ME MORE ABOUT CUPPING. HOW DOES IT TRULY FEEL?

Cupping adds another dimension to your healing process which is often overlooked. It feels like big suction cups — like being grabbed at the nape of the neck. It takes a moment to get used to, but nothing that a few deep breaths won’t resolve. After, you notice the release and feel relief, like you’ve finally found a solution to your pain.

Q: I HAVE INSURANCE THROUGH MY EMPLOYER. DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

No, I do not take standard health insurance, but I do accept FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards, which is normally associated with your insurance. It’s not a me thing, it’s a Square thing and how I’m able to accept payments. I can provide receipt or whatever you may need as verification, digitally.

Q: I HAVE A HEAVY WEEK SCHEDULE. ARE YOU OPEN ON THE WEEKENDS?

Yes, Saturdays, 11am to 3pm, and Sundays, 11am to 2pm. These days are highly sought after, so make sure you book your appointment well in advance, or as immediately as you see that the spot is open. Priority is given to members. To become a member, purchase the HEAL Package here.

Q: alright, so i know how it feels during the session. what will it feel like after?

Like a good soreness after a few days, as if you had a really good gym work out. People say that they discover new parts of themselves, in a positive way. You may experience some dull aches in the targeted location, but if you pick up some arnica salve or grab my Pain Potion, and apply generously, it will help to ease soreness and clear up any visual marks left by the cups.

Q: WHAT DO I DO WHEN I ARRIVE TO THE SHOP AND THE DOOR IS CLOSED?

If it’s your confirmed appointment time I would appreciate a light knock and your patience. If the door is closed, it either means I’m wrapping up a session and will likely be done in a few moments. I could also be refilling water at Ph. D, across the street. Please take a quick seat at the bench located a few feet away — I’ve got you.

Q: I’m sore in a specific area. what do you need to know about the injury?

Do you have any numbness or tingling? What is the level of pain (0-10)? Does it stop you from natural, every day bodily functions, or things like: yawning, coughing, sneezing, going to the restroom, etc.? Could previous injury be the issue? Any information on what hurts, and why it may hurt, is helpful.

Q: what kind of massage is this? is it a spa experience or more corrective?

You may be familiar with spas and other relaxing types of massage. This is a deeper, more precise version of muscle therapy using multiple modalities of oils and aromas. Consider this rehabilitative sports medicine merged with Eastern modalities, where the focus is more holistic and therapeutic. Strong medicine application to recover the body.

Q: any other details that might be helpful for me to know?

There is a bathroom for you to change and use if you need to go to the restroom. There is, also, a hanging tree for you to use for hats, jackets, etc. Feel more than comfortable to bring another individual for support, introduction to my work, or to film your session. Whether a friend, partner, child, or family member — you are safe in this space.
